The Healthy Of [spin]omega 3 Supplements

May 31, 2008 By: blogger Category: Nutrition No Comments →

Adding fish oil supplements to your daily nutritional program may be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make – especially if you’re among the millions of people who don’t (or won’t) eat fish. Nutritional guidelines recommend everyone eat fish at least two or three times a week, but very few people do.

Nutritional guidelines recommend everyone eat fish at least two or three times a week, but very few people do. And if they do eat fish, it’s usually battered and deep fried which destroys the nutrient value.

Fish, particularly wild salmon, is recommended because it’s low in calories and saturated fat, yet makes an excellent source of dietary protein. But more importantly, salmon is your best source of health promoting omega 3 essential fatty acids – EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

Essential means the body can’t produce these fatty acids. They must be obtained from food or from omega 3 capsules. And wild-caught cold water fish, like salmon, are higher in omega 3 oils than any other plant or fish source.

Why are omega 3 fish oils so important? These essential oils, EPA and DHA, can help lower cholesterol, triglycerides and excessive blood clotting, improve circulation, inhibit hardening of the arteries, lower blood pressure and help reduce the risk of diabetes, stroke and heart disease. That’s an excellent start, don’t you think?

And guess what? Omega 3 oils also help reduce the inflammation associated with such conditions as arthritis, asthma, psoriasis and migraines.

What’s more, omega 3 is good for your brain too. Research has proven that omega 3 DHA can help make you smarter, as well as reduce the risk and provide effective natural treatment for depression, bipolar disorder and Alzheimer’s.

So, it makes great sense to include fish and fish oil supplements as part of your daily nutritional program.

But you don’t want to take just any old fish oil supplement that’s sourced from either whatever comes up in the net or from some waste product leftover from the cat food or fertilizer industry. Nor do you want to use flaxseed oil. Flaxseed may be an omega 3 oil, but it contains almost none of the important EPA or DHA factors which come from fish. Another name for flaxseed oil is linseed oil. That’s right, the same oil that’s used in paint thinners furniture polish.

Instead, look for pure, potent fish oil capsules that are sourced from a specific species of fish such as wild caught, health screened North Atlantic salmon. And be sure it contains no oil from shellfish, bottom feeders, shark and scavenger fish. The formula should also be complete and contain all eight members of the omega 3 family and not only DHA and/or EPA.

Since the early 1980s, omega 3 fish oil had had an outstanding history of helping millions of people from all over the world to get relief from the pain of arthritis and psoriasis, support for optimal brain, nerve and eye functioning and lower their risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Omega 3 fish oil can make a world of difference for you too.

What Does Botox And Restylane Do Exactly?

May 31, 2008 By: blogger Category: Beauty No Comments →

The aim and the purpose of both Restylane injection and Botox are the same. Only the method and the medicines used are different which also work differently. Both aim at rejuvenating people. Both aim at removing wrinkles, folds and to fill up the gaps left by the ageing process. And to a great degree both Botox and restylane are successful. The skin is tightened and the crow’s feet besides the eyes and the nasal crevices get filled up, to make the person look younger.

Restylane works by adding volume and smoothness to the skin. Restylane is made in Sweden and since 1996; millions of people have undergone the treatment successfully. It has been performed in more than seventy countries. Restylane and botox are dermal fillers used to reverse the unsightly changes that take place with aging.

Restylane uses hyaluronic acid gel that closely resembles hyaluronic acid that is produced by the body. Therefore the body accepts it without rejecting and makes the process a success. Botox is made from botulinum which is produced by bacteria and is highly poisonous. Very minute quantities of botox are used for rejuvenation. It works by paralyzing the muscles so that they do not multiply the wrinkles and smoothen the existing ones. Since muscles are paralyzed, the face often has an expressionless appearance. The face looks plastic and quite unnatural.

But by using restylane the natural expressions are retained and hence the appearance is normal and natural. Restylane has been in use in Europe for many years now. It is considered safe and natural cosmetic filler. In December 2003, the U S Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Restylane for the treatment of facial wrinkles. Unlike other dermal fillers, including botox, restylane permeates the dermal tissue and naturally binds to water molecules. The modified water molecules assist in achieving volume showing a natural appearance. Restylane is gradually degraded by the body and dissolves without any residue. The treatment is immediately visible unlike botox which may take a couple of days to see the results.

Botox treatment lasts for four to six months after which the patient needs to be treated again. But restylane lasts longer and there are some patients who have achieved success with just one treatment. Restylane injection is injected just below the surface of the skin while botox is injected into the muscles. Restylane works by filling up the troughs while botox acts by paralyzing the muscles.

Are Cheap Hair Straighteners The Future?

May 31, 2008 By: blogger Category: Beauty No Comments →

The universal popularity of GHD hair straighteners is mind boggling. Surprisingly, this product is used by everyone: be it celebrity icons like Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow or Victoria Beckham or by the common girl commuting in bus or even the woman in the club. People using these accessories attract and interest everyone. Their meteoric rise as the latest accessory in the fashion market has been noted by everyone. cheap GHD straighteners are radically different as the masses do not view these as ‘must see’ items like Jimmy Choo shoes or Gucci handbags.

The GHD straighteners are a secret special weapon stashed away by most people to look gorgeous on any certain night to give them an extra edge over their contemporaries.

GHD is no exception to the rule of getting exactly what you paid for them. It is debatable about the quality of pairs of cheap GHD straighteners that you can purchase for £30.

Whereas GHD presents to you:

1) You can carry these accessories on vacation anywhere in UK and eve to America due to their universal voltage.

2) You can employ them in any style that you want to try on be it straight or curled hair as they are so practical and effective.

3) You can control your hair better as the barrel is rounder than earlier models.

4) The ceramic plates heat up consistently to distribute equal heat through your hair. Thus, it is unlikely that you will get heat spots or damaged hair.

3 models of GHD are presently available. The attractive and celebrated pink straighteners support Breakthrough Breast Cancer giving a percentage to that charity for every pair sold. Watch out for the fake cheap hair straighteners sold nowadays. GHD are firmly on the fashion scene without any plans to vanish in the near future.

My story: I originally use to just comb through my hair after washing it and it use to go fairly curly. My friend recommended trying a pair od hair straighteners and I saw the results she was getting so I thought why not. Anyway, after a few weeks meaning to go look for them and alway being to busy, I had a look online. By far and away GHD seemed to be the most recommended product so I got myself a pair. WOW!! They were fantastic, and gave me complete freedom to style my hair in any which way I wanted. Now, I have got myself a limited edition pink version which also donated some money to Breakthrough Cancer.

Type 2 Diabetes And Exercise

May 31, 2008 By: blogger Category: Diabetes No Comments →

One of the most undemanding and the most workable ways to knock over blood sugar amount, eliminate the dangers of “cardiovascular disease,” and perk up health and welfare in general is exercise.

In spite of that, in today’s inactive world where almost every indispensable job can be carried out online, from the ergonomic chair in front of a computer, or with a streaming line of messages from a fax machine, exercising can be a hard argument to win over.

The Weight of Exercise

Everyone should exercise, yet the health experts tells us that only 30% of the United States population gets the recommended thirty minutes of daily physical activity, and 25% are not active at all. In fact, inactivity is thought to be one of the key reasons for the surge of type 2 diabetes in the U.S., because inactivity and obesity promote insulin resistance.

The good news is that it is never too late to get moving, and exercise is one of the easiest ways to start controlling your diabetes. For people with type 2 diabetes in particular, exercise can improve insulin sensitivity, lower the risk of heart disease, and promote weight loss.

Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is on the rise. The number of people diagnosed with diabetes every year increased by 48% between 1980 and 1994. Nearly all the new cases are Type 2 Diabetes, or adult-onset, the kind that moves in around middle age. Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes include increased thirst, appetite, and need to urinate; feeling tired, edgy, or sick to the stomach; blurred vision; tingling or loss of feeling in the hands.

The causes of type 2 diabetes are complex and not completely understood, although research is uncovering new clues at a rapid pace.

However, it has already been proven that one of the reasons for the boom in type 2 diabetes is the widening of waistbands and the trend toward a more deskbound and inactive lifestyle in the United States and other developed countries. In America, the shift has been striking; in the 1990s alone, obesity increased by 61% and diagnosed diabetes by 49%.

For this reason, health experts encourage those who already have type 2 diabetes to start employing the wonders that exercise can do for them. Without exercise, people have the tendency to become obese. Once they are obese, they have bigger chances of accumulating type 2 diabetes.

Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that over 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are clinically overweight. Therefore, it is high time that people, whether inflicted with type 2 diabetes or not, should start doing those jumping and stretching activities.

Getting Started

The first order of business with any exercise plan, especially if you are a “dyed-in-the-wool” sluggish, is to consult with your health care provider. If you have cardiac risk factors, the health care provider may want to perform a stress test to establish a safe level of exercise for you.

Certain diabetic complications will also dictate what type of exercise program you can take on. Activities like weightlifting, jogging, or high-impact aerobics can possibly pose a risk for people with diabetic retinopathy due to the risk for further blood vessel damage and possible retinal detachment.

If you are already active in sports or work out regularly, it will still benefit you to discuss your regular routine with your doctor. If you are taking insulin, you may need to take special precautions to prevent hypoglycemia during your workout.

Start Slow

For those who have type 2 diabetes, your exercise routine can be as simple as a brisk nightly neighborhood walk. If you have not been very active before now, start slowly and work your way up. Walk the dog or get out in the yard and rake. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park in the back of the lot and walk. Every little bit does work, in fact, it really helps a lot.

As little as 15 to 30 minutes of daily, heart-pumping exercise can make a big difference in your blood glucose control and your risk of developing diabetic complications. One of the easiest and least expensive ways of getting moving is to start a walking program. All you need is a good pair of well-fitting, supportive shoes and a direction to head in.

Indeed, you do not have to waste too many expenses on costly “health club memberships,” or the most up-to-date health device to start pumping those fats out. What you need is the willingness and the determination to start exercising to a healthier, type 2 diabetes-free life.

The results would be the sweetest rewards from the effort that you have exerted.

As opposed to some states in the USA

How do I Choose a Good Laser Hair Removal Specialist?

You need to be careful when choosing a supplier; here are some questions that you could ask before choosing the perfect clinic for you:
- Do you have satisfied patients who I can talk to for a testimonial?
- What kind of laser is employed for these treatments? Note that a “Class 4″ kind of laser is made particularly for hair removal - if the firm uses any other kind of laser then it has not been built particularly with this treatment in mind.
- Who will be my consultant? What is his or her level of experience and qualification?
- How long have you been in operation, and particularly for how many years have you been performing hair removal therapy?

It’s a good idea to do as much homework as you can before you settle on a supplier. For example, you could investigate the firm via the Better Business Bureau. This quality organisation is always able to help you discover whether a firm is well-established.

How Much Will I have to Pay?

Intuitive Eating - What’s It All About

May 30, 2008 By: blogger Category: Popular Diets No Comments →

With new diet schemes being introduced to the market constantly, there is a new approach to eating and losing weight that is quietly gaining a following. And, it seems that this approach has much less to do with lose weight diet fads and more to do with lasting principles. It is called intuitive eating. Eating spontaneously is all about getting in touch with the food and nutrition that your body truly needs.

Although this type of diet has yet to break into the worlds Top 10 Diets as monitored by the industry guide at www.top-10-diets.com it might well be worth keeping an eye on to see if it makes it into the top 10.

Rather than setting up a “battlefield” of you against your body, which typically takes the form of hating how your body looks, counting calories, restricting food choices and basically punishing yourself day in and day out, the intuitive approach to eating encourages you to “leave the battlefield.” This is accomplished by stopping, listening and paying attention to your inner voice.

Those who have struggled for years with weight and “body image” issues have no doubt encountered endless confusing and frustrating advice on how to diet, based on the current fad or latest research study. Intuitive eating essentially turns that tables and empowers people to tap into their inherent wisdom, giving them permission to ignore the fray of conflicting voices in the diet industry.

The main premise of eating intuitively is acknowledging and accepting that we are highly intelligent “machines” with an innate ability to perceive what out bodies need for health and vitality. It follows then that we should know how to achieve proper weight, if we can learn to tap into this intuitive wisdom and knowledge. Since this approach is so fundamental, and so simple, some have even called it dieting for dummies.

Through an intuitive approach to eating, you are allowed to eat when, what and how much you deem appropriate. Instead of manipulating your meal plans according to a lose weight diet and judging everything in terms of calories, fat grams, grams of carbs and other such measurements, the idea is to listen to the internal cues and recognize just what the body wants and needs.

As a result, daily food choices are based on real hunger and real satiety, as determined by you rather than some external set of standards that may have no relation at all to the status and function of your body. Stepping back and looking at this approach, it is easy to see that a typical lose weight diet and even a diet detox can easily be working against the inherent, intelligent, natural programming of your body.

One of the foremost researchers in the field of intuitive eating is Steven Hawks of Brigham Young University. Hawks has concluded that the “normal” approach to dieting in America does not result in any significant weight loss in the long term. In addition he states that the typical lose weight diet strategies contributes to unhealthy eating habits, food anxiety, and can even encourage the development of eating disorders.

In one of the studies that Hawks and his team conducted, they found that those who followed the principles of intuitive eating showed evidence of improved levels of lipoproteins, had a lowered body mass index score, and had reduced their risk of developing cardiovascular conditions. Hawks summarized the study by reporting that the results clearly showed that eating intuitively had significant positive benefits and was a viable way to mange weight.

Causes Of Thinning Hair And Hair Loss

May 30, 2008 By: blogger Category: Hair Loss No Comments →

Hair loss and thinning of hair is a condition that has always been linked with men but in reality it can affect anyone at any age. It is important to realize that losing your hair does not in many cases mean that you have male or female pattern baldness.

There are several causes for loss of hair including many that do not have anything to do with the genes that were passed down to you by your family. For instance nutrition or more accurately poor nutrition can and does cause hair loss. It is vital for hair growth and health that we consume adequate amounts of protein and iron. The new compulsion with staying slim and trim by crash dieting, fad diets or eating disorders undoubtedly leads to thinning of hair or hair loss. What we eat definitely affects the health of all parts of our bodies. Many individuals are mislead by the idea that your hair is dead, but the hair follicles from which your hair grows are very much alive and need nourishment.

Certain medications may also cause thinning of hair or hair loss. The side effects for medications are not experienced equally by all individuals, therefore it is important to discuss this with your physician if you suddenly experience hair loss. This is especially important if you are taking medications to treat depression, high blood pressure, gout, arthritis or for various heart problems. In many instances your doctor will be able to give you an alternative medication that will not have the same side effects.

Hormone changes or imbalances can cause thinning hair or hair loss but this is generally temporary. For instance hormone levels are effected with pregnancy, the birth, thyroid conditions, stopping birth control pills, and menopause. Once hormones get back to normal levels normal hair growth will begin, however it should be noted that the hair it self may be slightly different in texture or appearance.

Mechanical damage of the hair follicles can lead to hair loss or thinning of hair. If injury of the hair follicles is severe this can lead to scarring causing substandard growth or permanent loss of growth. Mechanical damage can be caused by diseases, infections of the scalp, or by over processing. It is important to keep your scalp healthy and to be gentle with your hair in general. It is believed that even excess wearing of ponytails and braids can cause damage to the hair follicles by the constant pull. Perms, hair dyes, curling irons and blow dryers are also believed to cause damage if they are over used. If you are causing damage to the dead hair shaft you can be fairly certain you are damaging the living hair follicle.

Another type of hair loss known as Teleogen effluvium is caused by a emotional or physical shock to the system. This can include; the sudden death of a loved one, a high fever, sudden or extreme weight loss, metabolic disturbances, or surgery. Again, not everyone’s body will react in the same way, however in some cases the shock causes the hair roots to prematurely enter into a resting state. Once in the resting state the hair is shed.

There are many explanations or causes for loss of hair, therefore it is important that you seek the help of a physician before you assume you are simply going bald because of heredity. Hair loss and hair thinning may be an indication of an illness or the on set of an illness, for instance diabetes or lupus. Because the causes of hair thinning or hair loss are so varied a definite diagnosis needs to be acquired before you decide to seek out treatments on your own.

Tips for Allergy Sufferers

May 29, 2008 By: blogger Category: Allergies No Comments →

There is nothing that will ruin your day like allergic reactions. As a longtime allergy sufferer I should know. The discomfort is rather difficult to describe. For me, my allergic reactions are mostly caused by pollen in the air. I’ll be walking down the street feeling just fine and all of the sudden I’ll get an allergy attack. My nose will get stuffy and itchy, my eyes will get watery, and I’ll suddenly have difficulty breathing. Sometimes my allergic reactions are more subtle than that. Occasionally, I’ll wake up already fully congested and just absolutely miserable. As the day goes by, my throat will continue to itch and the more time I spend outside the worse things get until the allergic reactions are just too overwhelming and I have to lie down.

My allergic reactions may seem unusually strong and I generally have to undergo more treatments than most sufferers. Many people only need to use antihistamines to treat symptoms, but for me it’s not that simple. Not only do I have to use an antihistamine but I have to use two types. I also have to use a decongestant. On top of all that, as if that were not enough already, I have to get shots for my allergies. These shots make my arms swell for hours some time, in which case I get adrenaline shots to make the allergies calm down. Let’s face it; I’m a wreck.

What I’ve been doing recently has helped make my allergies not as severe as it was before. I have been finally following my doctor’s tips. First of all, I have been regularly cleaning out my house, making sure dust and mold has no place to hide out. At first, this stirred up allergic reactions, but eventually they subsided once the junk was out of the air. Besides this, I have been eating right. This means cutting out fatty food, and all things caffeinated or processed. Also, allergic reactions can be decreased according to some experts, by eating more vegetables and simple whole grains. All of this has done fabulous things towards making me feel healthier than ever, and that is the most important thing!
