What Do You Know About The Atkins Diet?

September 29, 2007 By: blogger Category: Popular Diets 1 Comment →

If you have ever struggled with a weight loss problem, then you have no doubt tried a number of weight loss strategies. When it comes to choosing a weight loss plan, there are too many to mention, such as fad diets, liquid diets, high protein-low carbohydrate diets, low fat diets, cleansing diets, cabbage soup diets, and green tea diets, in addition to an overwhelming selection of diet products like supplements, appetite suppressants, diet systems, diet clubs, etc. In light of all these choices, a diet low in carbohydrates has proven to be the most popular and the most effective for losing and maintaining the weight loss. The Atkins diet is a well known low carb diet that many people have followed to successfully take off significant amounts of weight amidst a fair amount of controversy.

The Atkins Diet was developed by Dr. Robert C. Atkins in the 1960s and popularized in his book Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution in 1972. According to atkins dot com, the Atkins Diet is based on the premise that people are overweight because they eat too many carbohydrates, therefore by drastically reducing carbohydrates in the diet and increasing protein and fat, we will naturally lose weight by burning stored body fat because not as many carbohydrates will be available. Limits are not placed on the amounts of food eaten, but the kinds of food; no refined sugar, milk, white rice, white potatoes or pasta, or white flour are allowed, but pure proteins like red meat, fish, shellfish, fowl, and fats including regular cheeses, mayonnaise, olive oil, and butter are allowed. During the first two weeks of the diet, carbohydrates are limited to 20 net grams per day, which is the total number of carb grams minus fiber grams. After the first two weeks, you can add fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains to your Atkins diet menu increasing your carbohydrates with fiber-rich foods. You don’t have to count calories either, and you may even eat more than you did before.

There are countless success stories and weight loss claims by people who used the Atkins diet to lose massive amounts of weight, but it may not be right for everyone. Nothing can replace good health, nutrition, and fitness, which should be combined with any diet plan. There is a fair amount of controversy surrounding the Atkins Diet. The American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society among other prominent health entities have issued warnings in opposition to the diet, stating it is dangerous to follow for any length of time; and you must agree, it does seem very much like a dietitian’s nightmare, apples in favor of bacon and butter. If you have any health issues at all, consult a health professional before beginning Atkins Diet or any other weight loss plan.

Anyone tired of hard physical training programs for weight loss should also try diets plan for better results. Normally such people go for fiber diet rather than gluten free diet. For such people, specialists recommend normal protein diet to get better result out of their physical training.

Beauty Skin Care Products

September 29, 2007 By: blogger Category: Beauty, Skin Care No Comments →

When I was a kid, I had no need to look for the latest organic skin care product. Even through adolescence, my complexion seemed to magically take care of itself. I never had a bad outbreak of zits, never had oily skin, dry skin, flaky skin, or any of the skin conditioning problems that are so common. My hair was beautiful and full, my coloring was good without makeup. In general, everything was easy for me at least as far as appearance went.

When I passed 30, however, everything changed. It caught me by surprise, as a matter of fact. For a long time I was in denial about it. I couldn’t believe how different my appearance was. Suddenly I was getting wrinkles, blotchy skin, a pallid complexion, And even split ends! Within the space of about six months, I was starting to look like a total wreck. That is when I started looking at top organic skin care products.

I tried some of the best skin care products that were on the market, but nothing seemed to work. The best skin care product for oily skin dried me out so much that my face started to flake! If it weren’t for free samples and cosmetics counters, I would have been spending a small fortune on the top skin care products! I tried everything and anything, but nothing seemed to make it big difference. Although I could find some makeup to cover up some of my worst aspects, I couldn’t find success with an anti wrinkle cream.

It was only a matter of time until I stumbled on something that would work. The best skin care product I found, in fact, was something that wasn’t carried any of the major chain stores. It was actually an all-natural skin care product that I bought at the local craft fair.

It was made by hand from organic materials, mostly containing herbs grown at local farms. I had been a little bit suspicious of all natural skin care, but the woman at the counter convinced me to try it. She showed me testimonials from customers who said it was the best skin care product they had ever tried.

I looked in the mirror, and I was amazed at the difference. I look noticeably younger and more attractive with The skin lotion on my face. Although it was expensive, it was definitely worth the price. It was the best skin care product that I’ve ever found, and would easily replace all the various lotions I was using at the time. Since then, I haven’t had to buy almost any cosmetic products.

Tips For Cosmetic Eye Surgery

September 28, 2007 By: blogger Category: Eyes Vision 1 Comment →

So why would anyone consider having cosmetic eye surgery?

In short, it’s designed to remove the fat and excess skin around the eyes and once you reach middle age, this is an area which concerns many people. It’s a sign of aging when the skin begins to lose it’s elasticity.

You’ll notice it on various parts of your body and for the most part, it will be hidden away behind clothing. However, where the eye area is concerned, unless you want to walk around wearing sunglasses 24 hours a day, it’s hard to hide.

Some might consider cosmetic eye surgery a little extravagant and will suggest you can’t fight back the ravages of time. That’s true but if the technology is available to regain a fresh appearance to an area which creates first impressions to other people then why not at least consider it.

What’s Involved?

Depending on the level of cosmetic surgery you’re considering the procedure can take from 1-3 hours. The length will depend on whether you have just the lower or upper eyelids treated or both.

The severity of the procedure will also dictate whether you need to spend a day or two in hospital or whether you can head home the same day the surgery is performed. In most cases the latter will apply.

Most people choose the first option and are aware of the procedure taking place.

Incisions are part of the procedure and depending on what area they are made, stitches will be required.

Cost Of Cosmetic Eye Surgery

It’s a little difficult to settle on an average cost because of the variance in procedure level. Prices can start from as low as $1500 and for more involved surgery, cost can spiral to between $6-$7000. These prices are only a guide and may vary considerably from state-to-state.

It’s a good practice to spend time discussing cost with your doctor as pricing isn’t just based on the operation itself but will include fees such as hospital fees, lower or upper eye lids, anesthesiologist and surgeon.

September 27, 2007 By: blogger Category: Eyes Vision No Comments →

Deciding on Lasik eye surgery is a big decision for many people and given the overall success rate of this procedure, it’s one which has many benefits to the patient.

However, if you are still “stuck in two minds” about Lasik eye surgery, then this article will highlight some things you need to know before taking that first step into the surgeon’s consultation room.

Asking questions should be your main priority when coming face-to-face with a Lasik eye surgery specialist. This will give you greater peace of mind and will help the surgeon understand your needs and fears better.

Your aim is to create enough confidence in the people you’ll be dealing with and you need to be rest assured that they will take this confidence seriously.

4 Lasik Related Questions You Should Ask

- You need to establish cost factors. It’s expensive and unless you know what you’re paying and who gets paid for what then you could be setting yourself up for a nasty shock when the bill is presented to you.

- Ask whether the surgeon will be performing any follow up after the procedure.

- Be clear on the laser treatment you’re receiving. Believe it or not, you could be charged a tidy sum for technology considered to be outdated. Ask whether the technology being used is the latest and whether the surgeon performing your treatment is proficient at using it.

- Your age is very important. If you are under 40 you need to ask whether the Lasik eye surgery treatment you receive will carry you through your forties and fifties. You need to take into account your vision will continue to deteriorate as you get older.

If you are under 40 you need to ask whether the Lasik eye surgery treatment you receive will carry you through your forties and fifties.

It’s only natural and the most notable difference will be in your ability to read text. So, get options if you’re under 40 because you don’t want to be forking out thousands of dollars again for more Lasik in 5-10 years time.

The Best WAy to Remove Unwanted Underarm Hair

September 27, 2007 By: blogger Category: Hair Loss No Comments →

It can be daunting to try to sort through the many products and techniques for underarm hair removal.

You know your armpit hair grows [span]twice as fast as|faster than [/spin] your leg hair in an area which is twice as sensitive. No, it’s not your imagination!

You know you desire a product to remove unwanted hair from your armpits. You arecertain your armpit is an awkwardly shaped area and underarm hair is hard to reach and see. You know you don’t want to end up red and raw from razor or chemical burns.

What you don’t know is what a person’s supposed to do to find products and techniques for underarm hair removal?

Both males and females now need products and techniques for underarm hair removal. There’s got to be a better way than what you’re using now.

The list of underarm hair removal products and techniques includes electrolysis, lasers, waxing, sugaring, depilatories, wet razors, electric razors, and heaven knows what else.

Cavemen used two clamshells as a pair of tweezers. What are you going to use?

You do know one thing for sure. You shouldn’t use ANY of these hair removal products and techniques on your tender armpits unless you’re sober and straight. No brainer!

Talk to your friends. They’ll have opinions about their favorite products and techniques for removing underarm hair. But, there’s no way around it. You have to do a little product research.

Let’s take the underarm hair removal products one at a time.

Electrolysis is a technique to get rid of unwanted underarm hairs by inserting a fine needle into each hair follicle. Electrolysis destroys the hair root either by heat or chemical action or both together.

As you can imagine, such a procedure is painful in such a sensitive area, even with a topical anesthetic.

Electrolysis is expensive. This product is most often used for facial hair. Spa rates run $25 to $100 per hour. Although many promises of, “permanent”, underarm hair removal are made, there’s scientific evidence that regrowth sometimes occurs when a new root cell forms in the removal area.

The most expensive product or technique for underarm hair removal is laser with prices ranging from $150 to $500 per treatment.

The laser product doesn’t actually remove the armpit hair, but rather is a technique that appreciably slows down underarm hair growth by using a focused beam of hot light which damages the skin depression from which the hair grows, called the hair follicle.

Laser treatments aren’t quite as painful as electrolysis, but most people still choose a topical anesthetic. Like electrolysis. laser techniques can leave skin damaged, pitted, discolored and raw.

In the United States, it is illegal to claim, “permanent hair removal”, for a laser hair removal product. The best results you can expect from laser underarm hair removal is 30 to 40 percent removal rate for approximately a year.

Waxing and sugaring are similar. They are two techniques of underarm hair removal by basically yanking the hairs out by the roots. A salon will charge you between $25-$45 per hour.

You probably want to get a topical anesthetic here, too, don’t you think?

Depilatories are chemical lotion products for armpit hair removal which dissolve the hair away. In the 1700s North American women used poultices of caustic lye as depilatories for removing unwanted hair.

Today’s chemical are milder and more controlled, but they work in similar ways and sometimes cause chemical skin burns or rashes.

Skin will frequently be splotchy, red, and irritated for hours or days after a depilatory chemical treatment.

Most people use razors when they want a product to remove underarm hair. Some use electric shavers. Some use wet razors.

One technique for underarm hair removal that will help in either electric shaver or wet razor underarm shaving is to take a hot shower before shaving to open up the hair follicles and make the underarm hair softer.

Always use a brand new, sharp blade.

Another technique you will find useful is to wait at least a half hour after you wake up before shaving, because sleep makes your skin puffy so it’s harder for the shaver to reach and cut the hair.

There’s no way around it. You have to do some research if you want to find what you’re going to use for underarm hair removal.

While you’re waiting that half hour for the puffiness to recede, hop on over to your computer keyboard and do some research and find out about newer, safer shaving tools to help you avoid the burns, rashes, irritated skin, bumps, and scrapes you’re getting now.

Celebrities endorse one over the counter acne treatment called Proactiv acne treatment, which is a daily skin care system that in made up of three products that are designed to work together to treat acne and to prevent further outbreaks. However, Proactiv is not available in stores, but can only be purchased from the company directly from TV ads or the internet, and it is considered to be an over the counter remedy because a doctor’s prescription is not needed.

Exfoliating the skin, gently, can also help keep acne under control. This can easily be done by using a cloth with warm water and a mild soap, or using an exfoliating skin care product. Common chemical exfoliating ingredients are salicylic acid and glycolic acid and these are also found in a number of over the counter acne remedies. Both of these substances will assist in the top layer of skin peeling away, which removes the dead skin cells on the surface and helps prevent a build up of dead cells.

Many common products designed for face washing also contain salicylic acid and in addition to exfoliating, it also helps to soften the skin and give it a more radiant look.

Another ingredient often found in over the counter acne remedies is sulfur which, in small doses, can be soothing to the skin as it cleanses and it also helps to control bacteria.

Good hygiene practices and a good diet can also be beneficial in combating acne.
